Nebbiolo

Italy’s best kept treasure. Nebbiolo produces some of the greatest wines in the world, but is hardly planted outside of its home country. Famous to Italy’s Piedmont region, look for these twin stars that are 100% Nebbiolo: Barolo and Barbaresco. This renowned grape produces glorious red wine containing complex flavors with high acid and tannin, allowing these babies (in the right hands) to age for years to come. Grab yourself a bottle, or three, and see for yourself what these wines can do!

Chiara now has eleven hectares of vines under cultivation in the communes of Barolo, Serralunga and Monforte d’Alba. She retains the honor of the first female winemaker in the Langhe, and though she came from a family of Barolisti, she braved incredible obstacles in the 1990s to earn that title. She is, by necessity, of unquestionable confidence, determination, patience and charm.

Piemonte, Italy

Traveling to the northwest corner of Italy you’ll find the region of Piemonte. Here the climate ranges between moderate to continental and the area is noted for its foothills. These foothills provide different aspects and altitudes allowing for a variety of elegant, aromatic, and earthy wines to be grown. However, the primary grapes of Piemonte are the black varieties of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto and the white varieties of Cortese and Moscato (Muscat). Within Piemonte are many other designated smaller wine regions famous for their specific varietals including Barbaresco, Barolo, Asti, and Alba.
