The grapes are harvested from Los Alamos Vineyard and aged in 100% French Oak: 75% Neutral Francois Frères, 25% New Louis Latour

Tasting Notes: On the nose this wine is fresh and vibrant. Aromas of bubble gum surround wet stone, apple, and lemon zest. It is zippy yet silky on the palate, lightly buttered with hints of coconut and vanilla, finishing with flavors of beautifully ripe pear.

Chardonnay

As one of the most popular grapes for growing and consuming, Chardonnay can be made in a wide range of styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. These styles can vary from a sparkling Blanc de Blanc, or fresh fermented in stainless steel, to rich and creamy white wine aged in oak barrels. While Chardonnay can flourish in many environments, in its homeland of Burgundy it can produce some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. Whereas from California it can produce both oaky, buttery styles as well as leaner, European-inspired wines. A Somm secret: the Burguny subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style with high levels of acidity. Most people who do not like oaky/buttery Chardonnay may likely enjoy Chablis.

Notable regions for this grape include Burgundy (and Chablis) in France, Central Coast, Napa, and Sonoma in CA, and Western Australia.

When pairing with meals, consider the characteristics, flavors, and acidity of your food first. You always want to try to match the same characteristics and intensities with your wine. No brainer pairing options include seafood, salads, and white meat. Chardonnay, with its vast versatility, is everyone’s best friend.

Central Coast, California

When we speak of Central Coast, CA were including numerous diverse regions from Santa Cruz down through Santa Barbara counties. This encompasses smaller areas such as Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, Monterey AVA, Paso Robles AVA, Santa Maria Valley AVA, Santa Ynez Valley AVA, and Sta. Rita Hills AVA. The Central Coast is responsible for many great value wines from a multitude of grape varietals depending on the climate within the specific designated areas. From the coastal AVA’s with influence from the fog and cooling effects, you will find Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The inland AVA’s are much warmer, like Paso Robles, so look here for outstanding Syrah, Grenache, Zinfandel, or Rhône-style blends.

Wine should be thoughtfully crafted by people who care about the vineyards, take pride in the process of making wine and create a product that is delicious and unique to its home.

We teamed up with Marc Piro of Piro Wine Company, one of our most-trusted winemakers in the Central Coast, to create the ‘No Name’ label giving you a high-quality taste of California Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at an accessible price point.

Marc knew he wanted to be a winemaker when he was nine years old. He sat in the crowded backseat of his family’s beige Mercedes diesel station wagon as they drove through the vineyards of Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley. Inspired, he announced, “Mom, I want a vineyard.” Her response was curt: “Well, then, get a good job.”

In 2012, Marc won a young winemakers scholarship which placed him at Au Bon Climat for an internship. The winery is located in the Santa Maria Valley and is led by two of the most legendary winemakers in the valley, Jim Clendenen and Bob Lindquist. Jim and Bob hired Marc right after the internship and Marc is still with them to this day. They have taught and mentored Marc from the beginning and they continue to help Marc perfect his craft and develop his own unique style of winemaking. As he puts it, “I strive to make old world-style wines from the new world: extremely delicious wines of balance, elegance, and structure.” This is where Marc fell in love with Pinot Noir. “The quality of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the area is some of the best in the world. We sit down for lunch every day at the winery and open up Pinot from all over the world and taste it next to our own. The Santa Barbara Pinot is a top contender every time.”

Quality is of the utmost importance to Marc. When asked what the difference is between large production and small production wineries, his answer was simple: “The difference is making a beverage with alcohol rather than wine with a sense of place.” Most large production wineries are manipulating their wines to make up for lackluster grapes by adding mega purple coloring, powdered tannins, and artificial flavors. Manipulating wines is more cost-effective and reduces risk, but doesn’t always reduce the price point and to be frank, it’s just bad for you.

Team Argaux was invited up to the Santa Maria Valley to help finalize the vineyard blend for the ‘No Name’ Pinot Noir, making this project extra special. The region, attention to detail, quality of the fruit, and the skill and passion of the winemaker are what make these wines stand out. They truly are a labor of love and we can’t wait for you to taste them!
