Maison d’Amis translates to “house of friends” and was started in 2013 by friends and neighbors, Alisha Woodford, Michael Villas, Nicolae & Pavlina Florea. It is truly a boutique winery that strives to produce food-friendly wines that show a sense of place. Michael Villas, lead winemaker, is an advanced sommelier who has worked for southern California’s leading hotels and restaurants including Michael Mina’s Aqua and Studio at the Montage Laguna Beach.
The winery was created by a chance opportunity to work with Steve Matthiasson and an exceptional vineyard site in Coombsville. It has grown to include sites in the Rutherford benchland and a cool climate site in the Oak-knoll District, as well as Clarksburg. Steve Matthiasson remains the consulting winemaker & friend.
Yolo county in Sacramento is where you will find this Clarksburg vineyard. Bordered by the Sacramento river, this area sees a mediterranean climate for the vineyard to thrive in. Warm days aide in development of the sugar in the grapes while the cool breezes from the river make this site not feel quite as hot. Clarksburg AVA is producing some of the best Chenin grapes in United States.
