Chenin Blanc

A true chameleon of a grape, Chenin Blanc can take on many forms including lean, dry whites and fine sparkling wines to sweet, rich balanced brandy and sherry. It is grown in distant parts of the globe, most commonly South Africa and Loire Valley in France. Given its versatility, Chenin Blanc can produce some exquisite wine. Many of these wines offer an excellent quality-to-price-ratio (QPR) meaning you could be getting a great bang for your buck. Classic aromatics and flavors include quince, yellow apple, pear, chamomile, honey, and other florals and spices. A foolproof pairing: Thai or Vietnamese cuisine!

California, USA

Dating back sum 240 years ago, California wine started in San Diego at the Mission de Alcalá, the first Franciscan mission in The Californias. After the gold rush in 1849, wineries then began to populate in Northern California around Sonoma and Napa Valley and the industry took off. Things slowed down during prohibition, of course, but after winning in both the Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon categories during The Judgement of Paris in 1976, California (particularly Napa Valley) was back on the map. California now makes up for 80% of wine made in the U.S.

California, famous for its fruit-forward, audacious wines that focus grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. California is characterized by a mediterranean climate, making this region ideal for full-bodies red wines. That being said, many areas closer to the Pacific Ocean benefit from cooling winds and layers of fog that are beneficial for grapes including Pinot Noir and many white wines.

Sandlands is the personal project of Tegan and Olivia Passalacqua. The line-up encompasses the forgotten classic California varieties, primarily grown in decomposed granite (sand), from regions and vineyards that have been farmed for many generations but have remained the outliers of California viticulture.

Tegan, a Napa Valley native, got his start in the wine industry working in winery labs in Napa. He has worked in the cellars of Craggy Range in New Zealand with Doug Wisor, with Eben Sadie in the Swartland of South Africa, and with Alain and Maxime Graillot in the Northern Rhone Valley of France. For the past eleven years, he has worked for Turley Wine Cellars, working his way up from harvest intern to Winemaker/Vineyard Manager.
