The Sallier de la Tour was born in 2008, the year in which Filiberto Sallier De la Tour, prince of Camporeale, asked the Tasca d’Almerita family to help him take care of his estate a few kilometers from Palermo. Sallier de la Tour is focused on Syrah, a grape that is perfectly suited to the clay soils of the Monreale DOC in which it grows. In addition to an entry level and a single-vineyard Syrah, the estate makes a scrumptious Grillo.
The Tasca d’Almerita was named European Winery of the Year in 2019, largely in part for their commitment to sustainability. The family’s approach to viticulture has always been based on principles of sustainability and adheres to thee ‘SOStain’ program, the first protocol for sustainability in the winemaking sector. This program allows wineries to know exactly the type of impact that they have on the surrounding territory and how to limit that impact with quantitative measuring tools that furnish the indications necessary to continuously improve, including among the things required, aspects that include soil management and erosion, from the way workers are recruited to the economic repercussions the business has on the territory, from checking the weight of bottles to renewable energies utilized.
