A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot.

The nose is laced with expressive aromas of raspberry and cherry, with subtle notes of sage and cocoa. There is also a distinct floral note, reminiscent of crushed violet and rose petals, which offers the perfect balance to the red fruit.

This wine opens with flavors of smoked strawberry, laced with a hint of mint. The mid-palate is smooth and silky, with nuances of chocolate and mocha. These four varietals work harmoniously together, creating a savory, supple mouthfeel, and the focused flavors and bright acid balance perfectly. This refined red blend shows well-rounded tannins, which will continue to soften over time.

The “Articondo” is named after Articondo Grassini, the first member of the Grassini family to leave Pisa, Italy and start a new life in America. Articondo loved to garden and cook alongside his wife Afiora. To honor their memory, this wine was crafted to be enjoyed with your favorite dishes in the company of loved ones.

Red Blends Wines

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

Central Coast, California

When we speak of Central Coast, CA were including numerous diverse regions from Santa Cruz down through Santa Barbara counties. This encompasses smaller areas such as Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, Monterey AVA, Paso Robles AVA, Santa Maria Valley AVA, Santa Ynez Valley AVA, and Sta. Rita Hills AVA. The Central Coast is responsible for many great value wines from a multitude of grape varietals depending on the climate within the specific designated areas. From the coastal AVA’s with influence from the fog and cooling effects, you will find Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The inland AVA’s are much warmer, like Paso Robles, so look here for outstanding Syrah, Grenache, Zinfandel, or Rhône-style blends.

Instead of joining the rest of the family at church on Sundays, Larry Grassini’s grandfather Articondo Grassini was more religious about keeping a garden. He would stay home on Sundays to make that evening’s ravioli from the green bounty of his garden, while enjoying a glass of wine (or two) …. Larry’s father Leo Peter Grassini—when not making ravioli on Sundays—was equally passionate about keeping a garden to grow much of the family’s food. He shared his love for the soil with his children and grandchildren, and these earthy traditions have now been entrusted to the third and fourth generations.

After falling in love and marrying in New York, Larry and Sharon Grassini journeyed to the West Coast in their red Volkswagon van (complete with peace sign decor!) and eventually settled down in the San Fernando Valley. One day in the 1980s, on a family vacation to Santa Barbara, Larry and Sharon Grassini stumbled upon the 104-acre parcel of untamed land that we now call Grassini Family Vineyards. At the time, they didn’t have any plans to build a winery or plant a vineyard, but they knew that this piece of land was too magical to pass up.

In the late 90’s, the Grassini family started making wine and it remains a family endeavor with daughter, Kate Grassini leading the operations today. They have one of the most beautiful wineries in the region, no question. It is a magical place and the entire winery and vineyard is solar powered and the water they use for irrigation is from the estates lake.
