The aromatics of the 2017 Seven Springs Pinot Noir are pretty and pure. The wine is light with hints of bright raspberry, rose petal and earth. On the palate the wine has lively acidity and integrated, soft tannins.

Pinot Noir

This elusive and delicate light-bodied grape is a winegrowers dream, but can be difficult to achieve. Stubborn, yet flirtatious, Pinot Noir is tantalizing creating a beautiful dance between the grape and the winemaker. The resulting light red wine can be nothing short of spectacular. Loved for its red fruit and spicy characteristics, its also a great food partner.

Look for notable regions including Burgundy, France, Central Coast or Sonoma in CA, Willamette Valley in Oregon, and Pfalz or Baden in Germany as well as many other regions around the world in New Zealand, Australia, Chile, and Argentina.

Willamette Valley, Oregon

The Willamette Valley AVA lies to the west of the Cascade Mountains south of the city, Portland in Oregon. Stretching into Southern Oregon, this region has the largest concentration of wineries and vineyards. With cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean, dry, long sunny days, and cool nights, Willamette Valley is prime territory for growing Burgundian grapes: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With the first planting’s back in the 1960’s, this region has grown slowly, but significantly, producing top quality and world-renown wines from mostly small wineries. 

Evening Land Vineyards was started by Raj Parr and Sashi Moorman.

Raj Parr is a James Beard award-winning author and wine professional. Widely regarded as one of the world’s most celebrated sommeliers, Raj has undertaken a new challenge as partner, proprietor, and winemaker for Evening Land Vineyards. He brings to the vineyard and winery a deep familiarity with the broader world of wine and a clear vision for Seven Springs’ place in it.

With an endless passion for both viticulture and winemaking, Sashi Moorman has earned a reputation as one of the new world’s brightest and most compelling winemakers. Together with Raj Parr, he serves as Evening Land’s proprietor and winemaker. Sashi’s thoughtful approach to the historic Seven Springs estate will ensure it continues producing benchmark Oregon wines for generations to come.

The 2017 Seven Springs Pinot Noir comes primarily from our oldest own-rooted block of Pinot Noir at the vineyard. Originally planted in 1982, these Pommard clones thrive in iron-rich, volcanic Jory soils. These 36-year-old dry-farmed vines are harvested by hand, the grapes are hand-sorted, and roughly 90% of the fruit was destemmed. A combination of gentle punch downs and pump-overs were employed throughout the fermentation to encourage a soft extraction of tannin and the wine was aged in neutral French oak for 16 months. The 2017 Seven Springs Pinot Noir was bottled without fining or filtering.
