Txakolina

To kick off our “Old World” summer sip suggestions (we are currently in Italy!) we’re starting with a wine Arden fell in love with in Spain last summer. Txakolina.

We are currently inspired by the The Spaniards pace of life: they know a little bit about living well.  This is a great wine to start living your European summer: with days spent in the ocean, wine at noon, dinner at 10pm and dancing by midnight.

Right now, we are focused on Zuri Txakolina, to bring that Basque feeling of tradition and refreshment. Ameztoi Txakolina is one of the top producers of Getariako Txakolina. They own 20 hectares of vines in the best location.

Ignacio Ameztoi constitutes the seventh generation to carry on the tradition of making Txakolina in the province of Getaria, Spain. The vineyards of Getariako Txakolina are planted on bluffs above the blue-blue Bay of Biscay just west of San Sebastian and its wild restaurants. This is the wine you start with at dinner by the ocean, when you don’t know where the night will lead you but are surrounded by good friends and the freshest seafood there is to offer.

And the wine picks up a little of that salty character from the breezes coming off the Atlantic. Imagine coming out of your afternoon in the ocean salt still on your skin, to a bottle of this perfect white wine, and a simple, fresh lunch.

The grape is 100% Hondarrabi Zuri. Intense flavors and aromas of pear and apple, grapefruit, pineapple and passion fruit, enveloped in a perfume of orange blossom; all accentuated by the subtle effervescence of natural carbon dioxide gas.
