As the Fall sets upon us, are you daydreaming back to our #SummerlikeaEuropean?
Well fear not. You know we are always thinking ahead. Summer 2019, we are partnering with International Culinary Tours to take you to Basque County for an incredible tour.
That’s right: next summer you can go on a weeklong trip with your Pocket Somm to discover the most vibrant parts of Spain.
This is a seven night trip with a two day optional extension to explore Bordeaux!
Upon landing on Sunday, June 1st or June 8th, you can enjoy a leisurely Pintxos walkabout tour of Old City Bilbao at 5pm. Talk about a beautiful introduction to a city.
On your second day, start with a guided visit of the Guggenheim Museum. Enjoy not only the inside exhibitions but the structure of the museum and outside installations as well. Continue on to La Rioja region with a picnic lunch stop and a winery tour, where you can taste some of their boldest reds.
The next day, we will explore the La Rioja region, first stopping at the town of Haro, touring two world renowned wineries. Compare and contrast these traditional, hyperlocal wineries with Baigorri, an ultra-modern winery where we will stop for a tour and lunch.
Upon waking the next morning, we will begin the day with a stop at a beautiful, modern Txakoli winery cascading down to the ocean, complete with tastings and snacks. Continue on to the beautiful fishing village of Getaria and enjoy a picnic lunch along the St. James Camino Path. For those interested in fashion, the spectacular Balenciaga museum is in Getaria and worth a visit. If you’re feeling energetic, head for an afternoon hike along the Camino path after the picnic.
The next day, enjoy a gourmet walking tour of San Sebastian while learning about the best shops for artisan chocolates, olive oil, an, most importantly, wine! After the tour, pintxos are on the menu at one of our favorite local bars.
In the early evening , experience a Gastronomy club in San Sebastian, formally open to men only and now open to women memberships. These clubs are spread out around San Sebastian and each have their own unique style. Enjoy cooking and eating what you have prepared with an accomplished chef from San Sebastian as we enjoy our final night together.
Can’t get enough? A two day extension to Bordeaux is available upon request (until June 8th or June 18th).
