The history of outdoor dining dates back to the medieval times when people would gather for a feast before setting off to hunt. The picnic was developed in the
19th century with the emergence of “pleasure gardens,” private gardens meant for afternoon strolls. In the 20th century the concept of “Alfresco Dining” gained popularity with the emergence of sidewalk cafes. Since then alfresco dining, a concept borrowed from the Italians has stayed popular and encompasses an evening of outdoor dining (specifically in the warm summer months) with close family and friends. August is one of the best months of the year for alfresco dining. Summer is coming to an end, people are starting to get back from vacation and it is time to have some friends over, share stories from your trips and enjoy one more night of dinner on the patio. The herbs are fresh and tomatoes are in season. An Italian dinner with friends in the cool evening breeze is what needs to happen. Don’t fight it, embrace what we have given you and head to the farmers market.
It is an evening that is much overdue.
