Staycation: LA

Behind on planning something for Labor Day? Never to fear. We have your back.

We love the idea of taking a weekend to actually enjoy our own backyard! To luxuriate in the space that is all around in this stimulating city.

So take that extra day to play in some of our favorite spots in Los Angeles.

Nomade  – One of our favorite places to stay when we are in NYC, its sister hotel in LA just opened. In a newly remodeled 1920’s Neoclassical bank, it has a sophisticated and polished downtown feel that rivals the NY standby. The ornate lobby leaves ample space to chat, meet, read, and relax with a cocktail. The luxurious textiles and brass details infuse history into this new heavy-hitter.

Freehand – Actually a hostel, Freehand is on the lips of all the hipsters downtown. The Broken Shaker bar on the roof is James Beard award-winning, and is poolside, to boot. Some of the most stimulating cocktails come out of the small tiki hut set up. Downstairs, at the Exchange, Middle – Eastern inspired plates are served to the hungry downtown cool set. Unpretentious yet buzzing, the hotel has everything  you could want as a Millennial urban traveller.

LA Peer – Not one for downtown? The LA Peer is your West Hollywood solution. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, it has a central location on the Westside, with easy access to the shopping of Beverly Hills and the beaches of Malibu. With a large outdoor pool, it also offers a respite from the heat!

Head for a cabana at the Viceroy pool for an ideal afternoon pause.

Viceroy Santa Monica – So it’s the ocean you want? The Mid-Century Viceroy perfectly captures that California aesthetic, with exceptional proximity to the Pier and the beach. Pets are also welcome!

Little Doms – Classic, cute, quality Italian. Also, Monday supper, prix fix for $18, is sure to chase away those beginning of the week blues.

Kismet – I could eat here every day. With a killer natural wine list that rotates weekly, there is always something new to discover. It is the darling of Silverlake, so make a reservation in advance!

Alimento –  In this Silverlake spot, a well curated and lengthy wine list awaits you at the bar. Some truly beautiful dishes come out of the kitchen as well! So order a few glasses paired with some snacks – it’s a treat for the senses.

Sawyer – For $14, you can get 1/2 Dozen Oysters of the Day and wine. Sign me up. Light and breezy, this spot in Silverlake perfectly sums up the East side vibe.

Find me here at Sawyer with an oyster in hand.

Ester’s Wine Bar – This Santa Monica wine bar is a cozy shop where you are sure to get individual guidance towards the cutest bottle. Quaint and charming, this is the West Side at its loveliest.

Wally’s – A Beverly Hills classic. This traditional spot has wall upon wall of wines for every palate. With rare spirits, high-end accessories, and a full menu, Wally’s is the old school LA standby.
